An Artist’s Statement (Or something like one)

Kit touched a pottery wheel for the first time in October 2021. It opened a portal, and they fell through into a creative space where nothing is precious and anything is possible. Like their own gender identity - the clay is malleable, flexible, tough, delicate, and able to withstand the harshest of flames.

Currently they are most interested in thrown and altered forms to best explore how the ancient tradition of pottery can be bent and shaped and learned from. Each wheel session is a conversation with the material to see what it wants to be. Usually, it wants teeth. They have also been teaching themselves how to pitfire with absolutely thrilling results, and seeking to combine natural materials from sentimental locations to burn memories onto the skin of a pot. Still only a year and some change into their ceramics journey, almost everything is still exciting and new. It’s a really lovely place to be.

View below to see some examples of work - pitfired pots, mid-range electric-fired sculptural and thrown/altered pieces, and some homages to doodles and art found in medieval manuscripts.
